Consider Colossians 3:3, “For you died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God.” When we hide something well, it cannot be found. Only the person who hid it knows were to find it. “Mommy, mommy, will you keep my marble?” Just as your marble is safe where you deposited it with your mother, the life of a Christian is safe when deposited with God. The assurance of salvation doesn’t get much better than that! Paul says, “That is why I am suffering as I am. Yet I am not ashamed, because I know whom I have believed, and am convinced that he is able to guard what I have entrusted to him for that day,” 2 Timothy 1:12.

We are very happy to be in the middle of our Marriage Enrichment Seminar. Last night Sue Murray shared with us the characteristics of the Intentional Marriage. We are glad Sue is with us today also. Even if you missed last night, please feel free to join with us this afternoon at 4:30.

Those of you on the Church Board, Board of Elders, Outreach Committee, and Social Committee, please remember our special joint planning meeting this coming Monday at 7:00pm. We will take some time to plan our events for next year.


October 20, 2007

Today is an exciting day! Two babies to dedicate and two people to baptize! God has managed to multiply our joy. On Thursday, I heard from Michele that the Millers decided they would like to dedicate baby Solomon at the same time as baby Leo. Way to go Millers!

Just so you know what is going to happen today… we will be dedicating Baby Leo and Baby Solomon during church time. After church, we will have a special potluck that will last until about 2:00pm. Between 2:00 and 3:00 we will clean up after potluck and make our way to the Downers Grove church. At 3:00pm we will start our baptismal service.

Tomorrow, we will be having a bonfire on our new property in Lemont. We will eat “pie with pie.” That is, bring a little money to contribute to the pizza fund and bring a pie to share.

Next weekend we will be having our marriage seminar. Please continue to invite your friends and neighbors. If you’ve signed up to help out, make sure you are communicating with your team leader.

Well, the weather seemed to be teasing us last weekend. Now October is living up to its reputation as a cool month. Fall is definitely upon us. I like changes in the weather it is when it doesn’t change for months on end that I get impatient.
 
The next two weeks will be full ones here at Burr Ridge. Next week, Leo Sommers is getting dedicate, and in the afternoon, Michele Sommers and Leigh Cunningham will be baptized. Then on Sunday, October 14, we are planning a Church Social/Bonfire down on our new property in Lemont.

In two weeks, we will be having our Marriage Seminar. This Seminar is something we are really looking forward to. Please invite you friends and neighbors to come participate with us.

Wednesday evenings we meet at 7:00pm, here in the Sanctuary, for a time of prayer. Our “Prayer Meeting,” as it is called, is simply that… a prayer meeting. Each person has a chance to share their joys and concerns, and then we pray. If you haven’t had the chance to participate with us in prayer, feel free to drop by anytime.

Today, we started a Pastor’s Sabbath School class in the fifth grade classroom. This is an opportunity to study the foundations of our faith. It is open to anyone wanting to study the basics of the Christian faith.

Hi All, here are a few announcements: Next week is our regular potluck Sabbath. We are planning a themed potluck of haystacks. So bring your favorite haystack fixins’. 

Two weeks from today, October 20, will be a very special day. Michele Sommers is getting baptized and Leo Sommers will be dedicated! We are looking forward to this wonderful celebration! Daryll and Adele Ward will be with us to celebrate, as will Scott and Nikki Miller. We will have a regular Sabbath School and Church, followed by a potluck. After potluck, we will travel to the Downers Grove church for the baptism in the afternoon. 

Remember, three weeks from today we will be having our Marriage Enrichment Seminar! This seminar is open to married couples and to singles, so don’t feel excluded for any reason. The registration fee will be $40 for couples and $20 for singles. Please invite your friends and neighbors. The schedule will be as follows:

Saturday 10/27
11:00am Session 2 (Church)
4:30-6:00pm Session 3
6:30-8:30pm Session 4 (Supper & …)


On Monday, October 29, we are going to have a special joint meeting of the Church Board, Elders’ Board, Outreach and Social Committees. The purpose of this meeting will be to plan for the coming year. What do we want to do together as a church next year? What plans do we need to make? The meeting will start at 7:00pm and end at 9:00pm. Please take this appointment seriously! We need your input!
